Friends & Neighbors of 149th Street
Our Mission
To connect our community, bring people together and hold space for the shared interests of the residents of 149th Street.

Our Founders
Founders of the 149th Street Block Association, Willie (Bill) Woodberry (President Emeritus) & Christa Giesecke, are longtime residents, homeowners and neighbors on 149th Street.
"When I arrived on the block in 2000, 2/3rds of the buildings were abandoned. I met Bill and we became instant friends. Bill and his wife, Debbie, had lived on the block and raised their 2 sons here since 1982. In 2007, we incorporated the block association, with the intention of bringing together neighbors to launch initiatives to further vitalize our vibrant and wonderful community.”
President of The Block Assocation
Steve Sylvia-Roche
Steve moved to Hamilton Heights in 2009 and to his current home on 149th Street in 2021. He and his family—including their three furry pals—cherish the vibrancy of the neighborhood, daily walks along Riverside Park, and being part of a community where neighbors quickly become friends.

Treasurer of The Block Assocation Raphael Sbarge
I grew up in New York City and have lived on 149th Street since 2002. I love this neighborhood and the people in it. Proud to do all I can to enhance and support our community space.
